Guest Director Policy & Terms
A Program of Mt Hood Repertory Theatre
Overview
Readers Theatre Gresham (RTG) provides a curated stage for directors to explore storytelling through staged readings. Guest Directors are selected to lead individual readings as part of the RTG season and are expected to uphold the artistic, professional, and operational standards of RTG and MHRT.
Participation as a Guest Director constitutes agreement to the following policies and terms.
Appointment & Selection
Guest Directors are selected through a curated process based on:
• submitted application
• artistic alignment
• interview with the RTG Artistic Director and MHRT Board
Due to limited programming capacity, not all applicants will be selected.
All selected directors are required to:
• complete a background check through MHRT
• cover the $9 background check fee
• sign all applicable agreements prior to beginning work

Role & Responsibilities
The Guest Director is responsible for:
• leading the artistic vision of their assigned reading
• casting actors (with RTG support as needed)
• conducting rehearsals within the approved schedule
• guiding actors in performance preparation
• maintaining a professional and respectful environment
Directors are expected to deliver a complete staged reading experience within the scope of RTG programming.

Artistic Authority
The RTG Artistic Director maintains final artistic oversight of all productions.
In the event of a creative disagreement:

The RTG Artistic Director will work to resolve the issue directly

If resolution cannot be reached, the MHRT Board will intervene
All final decisions made by MHRT leadership are binding.

Script Selection
Script selection may occur through:
• Director proposal (subject to approval)
• RTG-assigned programming
• collaborative selection
All scripts must be approved by RTG prior to casting or rehearsal.

Casting
Guest Directors are responsible for casting their production.
RTG may assist by:
• hosting casting opportunities
• providing access to actor networks
All casting must reflect MHRT’s commitment to fairness, professionalism, and integrity.

Rehearsals & Scheduling
All rehearsals and performances must be:
• scheduled in advance
• approved in writing
• coordinated through the venue partner
RTG operates in partnership with
The Center for the Arts Foundation at
The Little Theatre at the Center for the Arts Foundation
Important conditions:
• rehearsal schedules must be confirmed prior to casting
• additional rehearsal space is not guaranteed
• any additional space must be secured at the director’s expense

Compensation
Guest Directors, actors, and stage managers are compensated as follows:
Single Reading (Monday Only)
• Director: $50
• Stage Manager: $50
• Actors: $35 each
Monday + One Saturday Reading
• Director: $80
• Stage Manager: $80
• Actors: $60 each
Monday + Two Saturday Readings
• Director: $100
• Stage Manager: $100
• Actors: $75 each
Compensation is issued following completion of scheduled performances.

Content Standards
All productions must align with MHRT and RTG standards.
The following are strictly prohibited:
• hate speech
• illegal content
• use of contraband as props
If content includes adult themes, it must be clearly disclosed in all promotional materials.
RTG reserves the right to deny or remove any content that does not align with organizational standards.

Professional Conduct
All Guest Directors are expected to:
• maintain a respectful, inclusive environment
• adhere to MHRT codes of conduct
• conduct themselves professionally at all times

Alcohol Policy
RTG events may include alcohol service. However:
• directing under the influence is strictly prohibited
• professional conduct is required at all times
Failure to comply will result in:
• immediate removal from the production
• suspension from directing opportunities for no less than 12 months
​
Licensing & Rights
MHRT and RTG will:
• secure all necessary licensing
• obtain required insurance
• ensure compliance with performance rights
If a Guest Director submits or owns the script:
• written permission from the playwright is required
• MHRT must approve all usage rights prior to production

Recording & Photography
All productions must adhere to licensing restrictions.
RTG policy states:
• video recording is not permitted
• distribution of recorded content is prohibited
Photography is allowed and encouraged.
Directors are required to:
• communicate photography expectations during casting
• ensure participants are aware of photography usage

Marketing & Promotion
Guest Directors are required to:
• submit a professional bio and headshot
• assist in promoting their reading
MHRT will provide:
• promotional materials
• marketing support
Directors are expected to actively share and promote their event within their networks.

Cancellation Policy
Guest Directors must provide advance notice if unable to fulfill their role.
Failure to do so may result in:
• removal from the current production
• suspension from future directing opportunities for no less than 12 months
RTG reserves the right to:
• replace a director if necessary
• make adjustments to ensure production continuity

Removal Clause
RTG and MHRT reserve the right to remove a Guest Director at any time for:
• failure to meet expectations
• violation of policies
• unprofessional conduct
• misalignment with organizational values
Removal decisions are final.
​
Agreement
Participation as a Guest Director confirms agreement to all policies outlined above.
These policies are in place to:
• protect the integrity of the program
• support a professional working environment
• ensure a high-quality experience for artists and audiences
